Oxford literature professor Humbert Botkin has dedicated his life to the work of postmodernist Ezra Slef. Botkin decides to write a biography of Slef (without omitting the preface, footnotes and glossary, of course), but the book about the literary master does not take long to become a story about the author himself: his suspiciously started academic career, unrealized ambitions as a writer and eyebrow-raising personal life choices.
