Five o'clock gift card
In the 19th century, tea shook all of England. At that time, it was customary in England to eat only twice a day - late breakfast and late dinner - so at five o'clock, Duchess Anne, feeling hungry, would occasionally ask for tea, bread, butter, and slices of cake in her room. Over time, this charming habit turned into a true aristocratic tradition.
This tradition reached interwar Kaunas a century ago. Every other Friday afternoon, Metropolis Hotel hosted gatherings of intellectual and bohemian clubs for five o’clocks. In the interwar period, five o’clocks were not only an excellent excuse for fun and inspiring conversations but also for charity evenings. Soon, five o’clock tea and tiered trays filled with snacks spread across all the restaurants of Little Paris - interwar Kaunas - becoming an integral part of the temporary capital’s daily culture. Today, this tradition is especially popular worldwide for afternoon tea meetings in hotel lobbies.
Isn't it time to revive this wonderful tradition?
